A truly magnificent film. It feels like something between a play and a dream.

The film is made by Marcel Meili and Christoph Schaub about the villa 'Il Girasole'. The villa was build in the Po Valley Hillside in Italy in the 1930s by Angelo Invernizzi and Ettore Fagiuoli, with the help of their artistic friends.

Ow and here are some additional thoughts I had on this video and especially the marketing side of it: off course, it is a marketing video for a clothing brand. So, some people might think 'there goes another one of those over-marketed lifestyle brands, hyping their products on the internet via some fancy vids'.

I don't agree on this.

If there is a way to do marketing...this is the way. They are giving world class atlethes the change to live their dreams, and Peak actually really pushes the envelope to make a wonderful video out of it, every time.

For instance: the deep-powder part of the video (starts on 6.00 min) contains great shots in terms of timing and composition, especially in combination with the sound (Yup, great!).

You can actually forget that it's about the clothing and just enjoy the video. Therefor, it crosses the boundary of being purely an advertisement.

That's what I think is actually great marketing.

Shattered sunlight breaking trough the old trees. The light falling down on the cars, painted in the most vibrant shade of red, blue or yellow. The lustrous green lane that leads to the entry of the Palace, is used as a decor for the sprint.

Cars roar, people drink, laugh and have their pictures taken in front of these monuments in car history.

I had the pleasure to spend this weekend at the Concours D'élégance at Paleis het Loo in Apeldoorn, and managed to make some photographs.

The garden of the former Palace of the Queen of the Netherlands hosted the yearly event, where some of the most exclusive cars of Europe are gathered to compete in beauty, style and of course..speed!

My new favorite car: The Citroen Mehari

I have known this car for a very long time, but just now I start to really appreciate the oddness of this car.

It makes me smile!

Citroen has always been the company that came up with really unconventional cars, in both form and function. They incorporated adoptive suspension, adoptive steering and adoptive lighting as one of the first car-compagnies, they invented a new form of gear wheel the 'double chevron' and they designed all time classic characters like the DS, CX, SM and HY.

The Mehari is an act of courage and at the same time it is a humbling car. It's extreme simple, light, small en has got less power than a large mower. It has a polyester shell, a mass of 570kg, 29 horsepower, a top-speed of 121 km/h and a canvas soft-top.

Seems ideal for a trip around the world.

While the nouveau-riche get's their BMW 745Li out of the garage and the old chic is still riding in their old/classic Volvo's, Peugeots and maybe occasionally a Jaguar (ok, and maybe also a Mercedes), this is the car that you should buy today: the Citroen C6.

It is beautiful lined, luxurious, modest, and a bit odd: the Citroen C6. It was first introduced in 2005, and because it isn't the archetype masculine limousine like his rivals, it doesn't sell really well (hm, that's my assumption). Why should you buy it now? Because it is relatively cheap and therefore great value for money. You can now buy this car in Europe in very good condition (with low mileage) for around 25.000 - 30.000 Euro.

Go for a Lapis Lazuli blue exterior and a full leather beige interior.

It was at the dawn of automobile engineering, in and old paint-factory in rural France where Ettore Bugatti gave shape to the most authentic, renowned and legendary motorcars of all time. Near the location of the factory in Mollsheim, there is a residence where Volkswagen builds the modern-day Bugatti Veyron, which will always have to walk in the shadows of his predecessors, no-matter how great the engineering achievements.

First, let's talk about Ettore Bugatti (1881, Italy - 1947, France).

Ettore Bugatti was born in a family of artisans in Milan, attended the Art College of Brera. After leaving the College at age 17, he started working for a bicycle shop, than he worked for several car companies. In his early days he build motorized tricycles and raced them. Eventually he started building and racing his own motorcars with financial support of landgrave Gulinelli. It is said that his good friend Emil Mathis started the company Hermes around the same time.

It isn't very well known that besides the engineering of automobiles, he engineered trains, boats and even airplanes. Besides that..a nice trivial fact: he invented the 'light-metal' rims.

Bugatti Type 35

The T35, as displayed on the photo's is in original state and has race history! The Type 35 was made in several different versions (Type 35, 35B, 35C, 35T). There where approx. 200 - 300 Type 35 variations produced, from around 1924 up until 1931! Therefore, you could say it is pretty rare. It was designed as a two-seater Grand Prix car with 8-cilinder inline, 1991cc-2262cc, 90HP engine. Four forward gears, one reverse, fitted with a wet, multi-plate clutch. The gear-lever was mounted on the outside.The drum-breaks where operated by steel cables connected to the steering wheel, to top it of it was fitted with the light-weight rims. The scattered paint is just stunning! And look at the strange curvature of the mirror, the rugged interior and the spartan way it was equipped (well, it might have been luxurious in those days).

From around 1890 until 1930 was a remarkable era in automobile engineering and engineering in general, in which Bugatti played a beautiful, elegant role.

PRE-WAR BUGATTI TYPE 37A IN THE WILD

I was riding my bicycle the other day and then a dark green Range Rover Classic pulled up besides me...eh pulling a pre-war Bugatti racer with a young guy in it!

It looked like a Type 37A. So, I started yelling at the driver if it was real one..and he shouted back to me it was an original.

I know, not the best shot ever, and that's an understatement! But I really had to try hard to keep up with them. Anyway, I want one.
